The theme that most impacted me from the novel Night was faith. I learned that faith can be crushed by hellish situations, but people always find a way to not give in. People lived in faith till the end of their lives. Faith is the belief that God exists. People in the novel, Night, denied the existence of God. One said,“Blessed be though, Almighty Master of the universe who chose us among all nations to be tortured day and night.” Others said that this was a test and that God was testing who remained faithful in a place designed to purge the Jewish race from the world. Who remained faithful would be highly regarded by God and all to be judged of pure heart. It is like how God tested Job. Job became a hero because he stayed faithful to god. Faith matters because without it no one would have a moral compass to guide themselves. The world would be anarchy. Humanity would crumble. The world would be ruled by dictators, but then this may be a bit too extreme. At least without Faith in bad situation, people would give up. Today people all over the world are religious. Faith is abundant in all religions that have gods. Religion is practiced by over 6 billion people all over the world. In Elie's Nobel peace prize acceptance speech, he says that he believes in God's power in everything, but he doesn't believe in God being the all good and all serving justice that most believe God to be. In my visit the Holocaust Museum, I remember a story about a person who sneaked in a music disk of Jewish ceremony and they played it the concentration camp. Practicing the Jewish religion in concentration camps spelled out death for whomever performed it. Still, Jews practice their faith anyway, risking their lives doing so.
