This cartoon (Drawn by Wiktor Siminski) displays multiple male characters.
The characters seem to be struggling to get the soup in the can. The closer you look, you can see that the characters seem to possess traits that can be described only as disheveled. Wiktor siminski was a polish artist, actor and writer. He was part of an underground anti-nazi campaign and was arrested within days after the German Invasion of Poland in September 1939. He was sent and interrogated in Skrochowice Concentration Camp, and later to Sachsenhausen where he remained until the camp was liberated in May 1945. While at the camp he became widely respected for his artistic abilities, such as his sketches and carvings.

    It’s shocking to see anyone fighting just for a bowl of soup. However, in this artwork, people are fighting their way to the soup bucket. Every one of them is grimacing, face twist and desperate. I agree with you that the artists who drew this picture did a great job of possessing traits of disheveled.

    What I find so shocking about this piece is the apparent fact that the seems to be more than enough food for seven men at the table. Besides this all of them are rushing and crowding to try and get there soup before anyone else. This cartoon illustrates the loss of companion and care that the victims of the holocaust experienced during their imprisonment.

Before our unit of the Holocaust, I didnt fully understand how brutal this time period was. In the book Night , Elie talked about his experience at the concentration camp, which was extremely hard to read. Going to the Holocaust musuem was even harder. When we watched life is beautiful, they talked about how they take older people and children into a room and tell them that they are going to take them in for a shower. But they actually put them into a gas chamber. And at the holocoaust museum I saw a picture and there was someone who knew what was going on with the gas chambers and was throwing out her kids, screaming let me die and not them. But an overall question I had during this unit was that, did the people torturing the Jews actually believe that they think it's fair to take innocent people to a concentration camp, or were they just afraid of Hitler and had a better advantage because they were German. Throughout our study of the Holocaust, most of my time was spent processing how one man, more or less, managed to cause this horrendous event in human history.
